Step 1: Learn about the medical scribe profession through the "Purpose of Med Scribes" and "Videos" pages of the website.
Step 2: Become certified:
b) Complete the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) assessment and the Medical Scribe Certification and Aptitude Test (MSCAT) through the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists (ACMSS), allowing one to become a Certified Medical Scribe Apprentice. (Training for these assessments is provided on the website above.)
c) Complete 200 hours of clinical experience, allowing one to become a Certified Medical Scribe Specialist.
Step 3: Find an emergency room or medical practice to work as a medical scribe.
